Spring has Sprung!

Help the Women's Prison Book Project kick it off at the Bedlam for an evening of of storytelling. We have assembled a cast of storytellers, some who are regular performers and some who are venturing out for the first time to make us laugh, maybe cry, definitely be entertained. Each person has the stage for five minutes and are uncensored, so kids should probably skip this one.

Sprung! A queer spoken word event featuring new and experienced storytellers

Saturday April 10th, 5 to 7 pm
Bedlam Theater 1501 6th St. S. in the Fireplace Lounge
Admission price: $5.00-$10.00 sliding scale

All proceeds go to the Women’s Prison Book Project, an all-volunteer organization that sends books to women and trans-identified people in prison all over the country.

A little help for our friends...

Arise Bookstore is both our home and a kindred spirit. Run by a volunteer collective, Arise strives to serve the community in the following ways.

  • As a bookstore carrying alternative books and periodicals for people involved in South African, Irish, Native American, and other liberation struggles.
  • As a library of books, periodicals, files and videos -- both for in-house use and for lending out.
  • As a space for public events, including speakers, group meetings and discussions, film/video showings and cultural celebrations.
  • As a space for the Arise! collective, and for projects undertaken by collective members and friends, including the publication of the Arise! newspaper.

WPBP's library and office are in Arise and we could not do our work without them. Arise is holding a fundraiser to help raise money to recover costs they recently incurred. Please consider donating to them or stopping by their store and buying a lot of great books.
