Volunteer Opportunities

We can always use your help!   There are many ways to get involved with WPBP.  We receive about 600 book requests per month from women in prison.  Each Sunday from noon until 3 p.m., we sort book donations and fill book requests at Arise Bookstore (2441 Lyndale Ave. S in Minneapolis).  These mailings are the bread and butter of our organization, and new volunteers are always welcome.   We will train you on the spot and put you to work selecting and packing books!  The mailings are lively and informal events. You do not need to contact us beforehand, and you can show up anytime between noon and 3pm. Please note: mailings are for women and transgendered people only. Men are welcome to volunteer in any other capacity, however.

Specific Need: Accounting
If you have accounting skills and some time to donate, WPBP needs you.
The volunteer who has been doing our accounting for years needs to
move on to other pursuits. We need someone who can put in up to 10
hours per month keeping track of our books and filing necessary forms
with the IRS. If you think you might be interested in helping us out
in this way, please e-mail us at womensprisonbookproject@gmail.com.

Other volunteer opportunities include selling book donations we cannot use, soliciting donations from publishers and organizations, and opening letters from women in prison to screen for special situations and requests. We also always welcome help with tasks like fundraising, building bookshelves, and translating letters in Spanish. If you have time and energy, we can find a way to help you contribute to WPBP.

If you or a group you are involved in would like to organize a fundraiser for WPBP, or organize a special book mailing/presentation for your organization, please contact us. If you or your organization wishes to hold a book drive for WPBP, please see our Book Drive page or contact us.

If you would like to solicit donations from book publishers directly on WPBP's behalf, please see our Publisher Solicitation page.
